HC Deb 04 May 1964 vol 694 c130W
Sir M. Galpern

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if immigrants and visitors to Great Britain who can establish that they are drug addicts and require a regular supply of drugs for their physical and mental well-being are entitled to be placed on the register for such a supply; and how many people in these categories are on the register in England and Wales;

(2) if immigrants and visitors to Scotland who can establish that they are drug addicts and require a regular supply of drugs for their physical and mental well-being are entitled to be placed on the register for such a supply; and how many people in these categories are on the register in Scotland.

Mr. Woodhouse

There is no system of registration of drug addicts in this country entitling them to a supply of drugs. The prescription of drugs for an individual addict is a matter for his own doctor. The Home Office keeps a list of known addicts, which at the present time includes 74 immigrants and 12 visitors who are receiving on prescription from a doctor drugs which are controlled under the Dangerous Drugs Act. None of these addicts is resident in Wales or Scotland.
