HC Deb 04 May 1964 vol 694 cc125-6W
Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what gratuity was offered to Mr. S. Fegan, of 1195 Shore Road, Belfast, if he resigned as a civilian employee from the Royal Air Force Station, Edenmore, in August, 1960; and what steps were taken to inform him that this would not be paid if he accepted another post and subsequently resigned.

Mr. H. Fraser

None. Under the special rules which applied to the circumstances of his redundancy at Edenmore, Mr. Fegan would have been eligible to resign and claim a gratuity only if there had been no other Government employment available locally. In the event, alternative employment was found for him near his home. I have no record of whether he was specifically reminded at this time of the general rules governing resignation from established Government employment but, as I have said, there is no question of his having lost any opportunity for resignation on special terms.
