§ Mr. MarplesThe British Railways Board inform me that the estimated net annual savings directly attributable to the ten passenger closures concerned will be about £230,000, after allowing for loss of contributory revenue. The Board also expect to make other savings as a consequence of closure. These include those on basic track and signalling maintenance where lines are subsequently closed completely. They also include savings on general administration and from increased rationalisation, which cannot easily be quantified.
