§ Mr. CorfieldThe numbers of members—including aldermen—of each type of local authority in England and Wales are: counties 5,350; county boroughs 5,017; non-county and metropolitan boroughs 10,217; urban districts 9,342; rural districts 14,549. The total number of "city councillors"—that is, members of those county or non-county boroughs which have city status—is 2,958. No precise figure for the total number of parish councillors is available but it is probably over 60,000.
