§ Mr. GodberThere are about 530,000 civilian employees in national government and about 780,000 in local government. The former are covered by such procedures. There is statutory provision for payments to local government employees66W made redundant through any statutory reorganisation. Local authorities also have discretionary powers to pay gratuities on the cessation of employment for any reason including redundancy.
