§ 51. Mr. Pentlandasked the Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development if, in view of the current economic difficulties in the North-East, he will give an assurance that the grants towards the cost of industrial building and plant in development districts will continue into 1964–65.
§ Mr. du CannMy right hon. Friend cannot add anything to the assurance which the Government have given in the 191W White Paper on the North East (Cmd. 2206, paragraph 41), that development districts in the growth zone will not be removed from the list until there is a general and sustained improvement in employment in the region as a whole. Assistance under the Local Employment Acts will continue to be available to other development districts in the region so long as the local level of unemployment justifies it.
