Mr. Farr

asked the Minister of Transport in what chart position the contaminated sludge from Smarden has been deposited; what is the depth of water; and if operations in this connection are yet concluded.

The contaminated soil and residues were dumped in the area bounded by longitude 6° 37' W, latitude 45° 13' N, longitude 5° 54' W, and latitude 45° 43' N, and having a depth of 2,600 fathoms. The last batch of soil for dumping was taken to sea on Wednesday, 24th June; it was expected that dumping of this batch would be completed by the evening of Sunday, 28th June.
