Lewisasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that he is losing a considerable sum of revenue through persons evading the duty payable for having a vehicle on the roads, and that there are thousands of vehicles on the roads without road fund licences; and what action he proposes to take to ensure that this duty is received by the Treasury.
§ Mr. MarplesEnforcement of the Vehicle Excise Law is a matter to which the most careful attention is given. The Police report to the taxation authorities all cases where they observe that licences are out of date or are not displayed. The number of cases so reported throughout Great Britain is markedly increasing. We shall continue to keep the position under close review.
