HC Deb 24 June 1964 vol 697 cc69-70W
Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the opening of the new colleges of education at Ayr and Falkirk.

Mr. Noble

The colleges will open in October as planned. A certain amount of work will remain to be done but it should be completed by the end of the year and will not affect the opening. Each college, in the first instance, will admit up to 200 women students taking the three-year course for primary teachers and will build up to 600 by October, 1966.

I would like to take this opportunity of congratulating the Scottish Council for the Training of Teachers and all those others concerned on the vigour and skill with which they have carried out this project.
