Mr. J. Bennett

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many applications were made to the National Assistance Board, Summer Street, Bridgeton, for assistance in the years 1962–63; how many were granted; how many were refused; and how many were upheld on appeal.

There were no successful appeals against the refusal of assistance. The decision of the Board's officer was revised on appeal in favour of the appellant in two cases in 1962 and two cases in 1963. The Board's decision was confirmed in ten and fourteen cases, respectively.
