22. Mr. Leeasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will instruct Ministers in Departments which place 34W contracts involving public money to invite competitive tenders from appropriate publicly-owned organisations in addition to private enterprise firms.
§ Mr. GreenNo such instructions are necessary. Unless there are over-riding considerations of policy, it is already the normal practice of contracting Departments to invite tenders from nationalised industries and other public bodies where they are in a position to supply the required goods or services.
