§ 62. Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if, in order to end the present variations in the rates of pay and allowances drawn by troops from different nations serving under United Nations command in Cyprus, he will now make representations to the Secretary-General of the United Nations with a view to establishing uniform rates for this and other joint operations.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerIt has never been the practice of the United Nations to20W attempt to equalise the pay and allowances of the different national contingents taking part in an operation. So far as I am aware, no real difficulty has arisen as a consequence of this, during the years in which various United Nations operations have been conducted. However, I am naturally willing to have this matter discussed with the Secretary-General. It will be borne in mind that the Cyprus operation is financed, so far as the United Nations is concerned, by voluntary contributions.
