Mr. Danceasked the Postmaster-General, in view of the public concern of viewers about the low moral tone of certain British Broadcasting Corporation television programmes, whether he will direct the British Broadcasting Corporation and the Independent Television Authority, under Section 14(4) of the Licence and Agreement and the Television Acts, to refrain from sending television programmes of low moral tone.
§ Mr. BevinsI am aware of the concern to which my hon. Friend refers and I am sure that the broadcasting authorities are sensitive to these and other expressions of opinion. At the same time I do not think it would be appropriate for me to issue directions to the authorities since programming is their responsibility.
