§ 51. Mr. A. Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will advise the Metropolitan Police authorities to take action to ensure a more thorough investigation of persons using vehicles on the road with out the necessary driving licence and, in some instances, without the necessary road fund licences.
§ Mr. WoodhouseNo. The Commissioner of Police tells me that it is normal practice for the police to ask to see driving licences when drivers are interviewed in connection with accidents, offences, or for other reasons. If the 101W driver holds a provisional licence, production of the qualified person's licence is also required.
With regard to action taken by the police to check road fund licences, I would refer to the answer my right hon. Friend gave to the hon. Member on 26th March.
