HC Deb 04 June 1964 vol 695 c202W
Mr. Gourlay

asked the Minister of Labour how many linoleum workers were declared redundant in Kirkcaldy in 1963; how many are still unemployed; and how many are expected to register as being unemployed when Barry's works in Kirkcaldy are completely closed in mid-June.

Mr. Whitelaw

741 redundancies were notified to the Kirkcaldy Employment Exchange by Messrs. Barry, Ostlere and Shepherd during 1963. 48 ex-employees of this firm have been continuously registered as unemployed at the Kirkcaldy Employment Exchange since 1963. I understand that approximately 200 workers will become redundant shortly but I cannot say how many will register at employment exchanges.
