§ 25. Mr. N. Pannellasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether, in view of the increasing number of deaths resulting from fires in multi-occupied houses, he will recommend local authorities in the more vulnerable areas to insist on the provision of adequate fire escapes or, as a temporary measure, the installation of flexible metal ladders at convenient points.
§ Mr. CorfieldThe current Housing Bill will improve local authorities' powers to require the provision of means of escape from fire in houses in multiple occupation. When the Bill is enacted my right hon. Friend will be issuing advice to local authorities on its implementation, and in this connection will bear my hon. Friend's suggestions in mind.
