§ Mr. Bourne-Artonasked the Minister of Power what new steel production facilities have been brought into operation since 1953; what is the total addition to crude steel production capacity since 1953; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. PeytonSince 1953, seven completely new works have been brought into operation. Total capacity for the production of crude steel has increased 383W from 18½ million tons in 1953 to 30 million tons today and some 4 million tons of old capacity have been withdrawn. The industry's success in expanding capacity has enabled it to meet the record demand for steel in 1964.
