HL Deb 29 July 1964 vol 260 cc1201-2WA
LORD FORBES

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What assistance they propose giving local authorities in order that the clearing up of the putrid condition of the lower reaches of the River Don (Aberdeenshire) may be expedited, owing to the heavy pollution of the river, now regarded as a disgrace to the North-East of Scotland, proving not only obnoxious to the people of the city and County of Aberdseen but also to visitors to the city who are still mindful of the recent typhoid outbreak.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, SCOTTISH OFFICE (LORD CRAIGTON)

Grant under the Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Acts has been offered to Aberdeen County Council in respect of a sewage purification scheme at Meikle Wartle, and it is expected that schemes at Dyce, Insch and Rothney, and Kemnay will also qualify. Grant will also be available towards a scheme by Kintore Town Council. The balance of expenditure by the local authorities concerned ranks for Exchequer equalisation grant in the ordinary way.

House adjourned at seven minutes before eight o'clock.
