Mrs. Butlerasked the Minister of Transport if he will give an assurance that, before further increases are approved for the London Transport area he will appoint an independent commission to examine all the factors involved in increases in fares in the area, including the hardship to old age pensioners, and others with low incomes and to take evidence from the travelling public.
§ Mr. MarplesNo. Fare increases in the London Area already have to be justified at a public inquiry held by an independent court, the Transport Tribunal, at which bodies representative of the travelling public can appear and be heard.
