§ Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations and the Colonies if he will take steps to bring the law in regard to public meetings and freedom of speech in Rodriguez into harmony with the laws in force in Mauritius.
§ Mr. SandysThe law relating to public meetings and freedom of public speech in Rodrigues is the same as in Mauritius except that the Public Meetings and Processions Ordinance of 1946 which imposes certain restrictions has not been extended to Rodrigues. The Governor has advised me that he is not at present aware of any consideration which would make extension of this law to Rodrigues advisable.
