§ 64. Mr. E. Johnsonasked the Minister of Transport what is the nature and purpose of the road work which began in Piccadilly on 14th July at the Eastern entrance and exit of the Hyde Park Corner underpass; and why this work was carried out during a week when the 84W traffic was likely to be exceptionally heavy.
§ Mr. MarplesThe London County Council began preparatory work last week for the widening of Piccadilly between the Hyde Park Corner underpass and Half Moon Street. The work was carried out mainly at night, to minimise the effect on traffic. The normal carriageway width was maintained up to 8 p.m. each day, and we understand from the police that there was no unusual traffic difficulty.
