§ Mr. Pounderasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the number of schools, within the framework of the National Health Service, which are available for the treatment of spastic, mongol, and thalidomide children; and what plans he has for an increase in the number of these schools in each of the next three years.
§ Mr. HoggThere are in England and Wales 126 boarding and 270 day special schools for the educationally sub-normal—including mongol children suitable for education in school—and 48 boarding and 80 day special schools for the physically handicapped—including children suffering from cerebral palsy and congenital limb deformities such as those due to thalidomide.
Building programmes for the three years 1964–67 include 50 new special schools for the educationally sub-normal and 4 for the physically handicapped.
