HC Deb 15 July 1964 vol 698 c227W
48. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why the floating crane capable of lifting 150 tons is to be transferred from Malta to Gibraltar, leaving Malta with only an unfloatable crane with a capacity of 60 tons; and what alternative arrangements have been made in the port for any lifts of over 60 tons required in the future.

Mr. Hay

With regard to the transfer of the floating crane, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to him yesterday.

Her Majesty's Government have no responsibility for the internal management of the dockyard at Malta, but so far as I am aware no alternative arrangements have been made for lifts over 60 tons which may be required in the future.
