§ 53. Mr. A. Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will publish in HANSARD a list of the names of firms who have since 1951 received large Government contracts, and as much information as is readily available of the total cost of, and profit on, these contracts.
§ Mr. ThorneycroftYes. The information is as follows:
A list of 20 firms which have received large Government contracts since 1951 is given below. Over the last three years, the only period for which figures are readily available, payments of about £1,200 million were made to these firms. It is not possible to state the average profit allowed on the contracts to which these figures relate. Where, however, non-competitive contracts are negotiated the aim is to allow profit on the basis of the normal formula. This provides for 7½ per cent. on capital employed plus appropriate allowances for risk or efficiency with a maximum of 15 per cent. on capital employed.
