HC Deb 07 July 1964 vol 698 cc62-3W
52. Sir B. Janner

asked the Postmaster-General what is the waiting list in Leicester for telephones; what is the reason for the delay in supplying them; and what is the longest period for which anyone has waited for installation.

Mr. Mawby

Excluding 14 advance orders for telephones in premises not yet occupied, there are 18 on the waiting list, pending the completion of new cables in five exchange areas. The longest waiting period is 9 months. I expect this application to be met within a month or two and all the remaining ones before the end of the year.

In addition 534 orders are under inquiry or being met. 2,900 telephones have been supplied in Leicester in the last 12 months.
