HC Deb 06 July 1964 vol 698 c21W
27. Mr. David James

asked the Minister of Health what progress is being made by the County Borough of Brighton in the provision of residential care of the elderly.

Mr. Braine

The Council provides residential care for some 614 elderly people, 501 in their own accommodation and 113 in voluntary homes.

The Council's policy is to build small homelike homes of 35 places or less. Seven such homes have so far been opened; I is under construction, and 9 more are planned for completion by 1974. More than 1,000 elderly people will be accommodated by that date.
