§ 84. Sir P. Agnewasked the Minister of Transport whether, in sending copies of the Annual Report for 1963 of the Central Transport Consultative Committee to the Railways Board, he will give a direction to the Board to take action on the Committee's recommendation, expressed in paragraph 35, that the question of introducing unstaffed halts merits further consideration; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MarplesNo. I understand that the Board has sent the Committee a statement of its policy on unstaffed halts. I am told that the Committee discussed this at a recent meeting and found it acceptable. In deciding whether to consent to a proposed passenger closure, I always bear in mind the possibility that stations for which there is a public need might be retained as unstaffed halts.
