Mrs. Butlerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies under what circumstances the Governor of Malta has banned all outdoor activities of the Malta Labour Party Brigade and imposed heavy penalties on the wearing of the Brigade uniform.
§ Mr. SandysThe Governor was acting on the advice of the Government of 63W Malta, with whom lies responsibility for the internal affairs of the Island. I am informed that the law in Malta relating to quasi-military bodies and the wearing of uniforms signifying association with a political organisation are modelled on similar provisions in British legislation.
