§ Sir J. Duncanasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made with compensation and pension arrangements for non-designated officers in the service of the Northern Rhodesia Government; and if he will give details.
§ Mr. SandysA scheme for these officers came into effect on 10th January. If they retire voluntarily within two years they will receive the pensions earned by their length of service. If they continue to serve for a further two years, or if they are required to retire to facilitate localisation, they will qualify for an additional pension. Part of an officer's pension can be commuted, at a higher rate than has hitherto applied, in accordance with tables prepared by actuaries.
