§ Mr. MarplesThe police and local authorities have power to remove from roads vehicles which appear to be abandoned. The removal charge of £2 is recoverable from the driver who left the vehicle in the place from which it was removed, but if such a person is not traced the expense falls on public funds. The police do their best to prevent gypsies and others from breaking up vehicles on road verges. The removal of litter is part of the responsibility of highway authorities for maintaining the highway.
