HC Deb 18 February 1964 vol 689 c170W
46. Sir B Janner

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs how many local authorities in England and Wales, respectively, have completed swimming pools; and what encouragement is given by his Department to the further development of swimming pools programmes by such authorities.

Mr. Corfield

My information may not be complete, but so far as I know at least 342 English and 19 Welsh authorities have swimming pools open to the general public. 44 authorities, 2 being in Wales, are constructing or considering the construction of pools at the present time.

My right hon. Friend is ready to consider applications for loan sanction from local authorities wishing to provide pools. A Design Bulletin on Swimming Pools published in 1962 gives advice on sizes and design.
