§ 58. Mr. A. Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that, in the last few months of a Government's term of office, the political and economic uncertainties connected with the possible date of a General Election do much to harm the economy of the country; and whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that, subject to the maintenance of the present practice concerning the passing of a censure Motion on the Government, the date for the holding of a General Election is prescribed by Statute, such as is now the practice for elections to the Greater London Council and county and borough councils.
