Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the domestic disorganisation which will take place among the families of the 400 work-people who will become redundant as a result of the decision to close down the Peak Frean biscuit factory at Avon-mouth; and what steps he is taking to find alternative employment for these workers.
§ Mr. WhitelawI appreciate the concern which must be felt by the work-people affected by the closure. Our local officers will do everything possible to assist those who seek their help in finding alternative employment. Prospects of other work are good in the Bristol area although, as elsewhere, opportunities of part-time factory employment are more limited.
