HC Deb 04 February 1964 vol 688 c125W
18. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the extent of United Kingdom investment in the French engineering, electronic and other industries; and if he will give an estimate of the value of such investment to the British economy.

Mr. Maudling

The information is not available, but United Kingdom direct investment in all industries in France, except oil, banking and insurance, is estimated at £73 million at the end of 1962. It is difficult to give a calculation of its value to the British economy, which takes many forms from the direct financial return to the promotion of United Kingdom exports.
