HC Deb 04 February 1964 vol 688 c134W
69. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will take further steps to make known to the public that facilities are provided by most local authorities under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Act for loans to people desiring to purchase their homes; and if he will encourage authorities who have not yet adopted the Act to do so.

Sir K. Joseph

Most local authorities operate housing loan schemes, for the most part using the wider and more flexible powers in the Housing Acts. I am continually encouraging the authorities to make full use of their powers, but it is not for me to take steps to make these facilities known to the public. The powers to make loans for house purchase are permissive and the local authorities must be left to make their own arrangements for publicity.
