HC Deb 04 February 1964 vol 688 c144W
Mr. K. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what research studies on homosexuality have been carried out or sponsored by his Department in the last four years; and what further research he has in mind.

Mr. Brooke

In the last four years research grants have been made by the Home Office for studies by Mr. Richard Hauser, who published his results in 1962 in a book entitled "The Homosexual Society", and by Mr. Gordon Westwood, working under the direction of Professor Alec Rodger of Birkbeck College, London. I understand that Mr. Westwood's study, which was of the social background and personality of members of selected groups of homosexuals and non-homosexuals, has been completed and that its results are likely to be published fairly soon. It is not at present contemplated that the Home Office should sponsor or carry out further research on homosexuality, beyond these two studies.
