HC Deb 04 February 1964 vol 688 cc145-6W
Mr. Merlyn Rees

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the conditions under which a man already in employment may be accepted for a retraining course in a Government training centre.

Mr. Godber

Any unskilled man in employment, and any skilled man under notice of dismissal and unlikely to be able to find a job in the same trade, would be eligible for consideration for training in most trades at a Government Training Centre.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the weekly rates of training allowances to men aged 21 years and over in Government training centres; and the average length of courses in these centres.

Mr. Godber

On the first part of the Question I would refer the hon. Member to the Answer which I gave on 9th December to the hon. Member for Rutland and Stamford (Mr. K. Lewis). The answer to the second part of the Question is that the majority of training courses last six months.
