§ Mr. Oswaldasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement on the progress of the programme of hospital building in Scotland, up to the most recent convenient date.
§ Mr. RossDuring the six months' period from 1st April to 30th September, 1964, hospital capital works to the value of £3,171,000 were completed in Scotland; they provided 287 beds. At the end of September, 1964, schemes estimated to cost approximately £33,147,000, and to provide 3,319 beds, were in progress.
The schemes completed in this period included the reconstruction of Seafield Hospital, Buckie, the completion of the general redevelopment of Strathmartine Hospital, Dundee, and the new Queen Mother's Maternity Hospital in Glasgow. Those started during the period include the Nuffield Transplantation Surgery Unit in Edinburgh (£215,000), a new plastic surgery hospital hi Glasgow (£961,000), a new teaching hospital and medical school in Dundee (over £13 million), 271W general practitioner maternity units at Clydebank (£116,000) and East Kilbride (£96,000), and major improvements to Cowglen Hospital, Glasgow, for use as a geriatric unit (£300,000).
