§ 75. Mr. Thorpeasked the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs what proposals Her Majesty's Government have for implementing the decision taken by the United Nations on 26th October, 1964, which recommended that aid should be given to the victims of apartheid.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNo such decision was taken by the United Nations. There was an appeal by the Special Committee on Apartheid, of which the United Kingdom is not a member, to members of the United Nations to contribute to help the families of those on trial for political offences in South Africa. The existing relief organisations to which the appeal refers are private organisations. It is not the practice of Her Majesty's Government to make financial contributions to unofficial organisations of this kind.
