HL Deb 21 December 1964 vol 262 c710WA
LORD MANCROFT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is permissible for a full-time member of a fire brigade to accept alternative employment during off-duty hours; and, if so, what steps are taken to ensure that such employment does not prejudice operational efficiency.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (LORD STONHAM)

The acceptance by a full-time member of a fire brigade of outside employment is permissible subject to the approval of his fire authority, acting in accordance with agreements reached by the National Joint Council for Local Authorities' Fire Brigades. My right honourable friend has no evidence that these arrangements prejudice operational efficiency.

House adjourned at twenty-six minutes past six o'clock.
