Mr. Hobdenasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many people in each area covered by the National Assistance Boards of Middle Street and St. James Street, Brighton, were in receipt of National Assistance at the latest available date; and how many of them were retirement pensioners, widows, sick and unemployed, respectively.

§ Mr. PentlandOn 15th December, 1964, in the area covered by the National Assistance Board's office at Middle Street, 4,817 persons, including 3,043 retirement pensioners, 140 with widow's benefit, 514 sick, and 307 unemployed; and in the area covered by the office at St. James Street, 5,389, including 3,117 retirement pensioners, 239 with widow's benefit, 686 sick, and 186 unemployed. Some of the allowances to retirement pensioners covered the needs of more than one pensioner, being allowances to a married couple.
