asked Her Majesty's Government:

To state the number of persons convicted of murder during the five years immediately preceding and the five years subsequent to the passing of the Homicide Act, 1957.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (LORD STONHAM)

In England and Wales during the years 1952-56 inclusive, 154 persons were convicted of murder; during 1958-62, 159 persons were convicted of non-capital murder and 37 of capital murder. The corresponding figures for Scotland are 10, 19 and 7.
