Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he will take steps to obtain from manufacturing firms suggestions further to increase exports;

(2) if he will have consultations with the managements of the large manufacturing concerns with the best export record, in order to benefit from their experience and see that it is applied to increase the exports from other concerns.

Yes. I am in close touch with industry both directly and through the British National Export Council and other national organisations concerned with exports. The Minister of State (Overseas) in my Department is engaged in a series of meetings with senior representatives of major exporting companies.
