§ Mr. Lubbockasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will estimate the adverse effects on the balance of payments which have been caused by the increase in the price of copper from £311 per ton on 1st August to £503 per ton on 4th December.
§ Mr. RedheadI cannot estimate the effect of this increase in prices on the London Metal Exchange on that part of our imports (and exports) to which they apply; the greater part of our imports is bought at prices fixed by producers, which are at present much lower.
