Mr. Temple

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what is the estimated cost of teachers' salaries taken account of in the general and relative supplemental grant orders for the periods 1963–64 and 1964–65; and if he will make an estimate of the figure for 1965–66.

Mr. Crossman

The cost of teachers' salaries and superannuation taken into account in general grant orders and increase orders was £455 million for 1963–64, and £470 million for 1964–65. For 1965–66 it is expected to be about £490 million.
