HC Deb 03 December 1964 vol 703 cc110-1W
Q17. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Prime Minister whether he will now make a further statement on strikes during the election period.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour has examined the facts in his Department about the strikes during the period of the election, and reported to me.

There is no evidence of political motivation in any of the disputes which occurred between 15th September and 15th October. While, having regard to occurrences in the 1955 and 1959 elections, there seemed a good prima facie case for an examination such as my right hon. Friend has now conducted, facts which came to light shortly after my statement on 30th September made it clear that the difficulties lay in industrial and not political attitudes.
