HC Deb 24 April 1964 vol 693 cc219-20W
Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the Postmaster-General if he will state the number of new public telephones installed in the Antrim area during each of the past five years, respectively, and his plans for future expansion of this service in this area.

Mr. Bevins

The numbers of new public telephones installed in the County of Antrim, excluding Belfast, during each of the past five years were:

1959–60 9
1960–61 5
1961–62 8
1962–63 4
1963–64 13
Sixteen kiosks have been withdrawn during the past five years.

The numbers quoted include, in each case, kiosks which have been resited.

As regards the future, I plan to continue the present policy of providing public telephones in accordance with public need.
