Dr. Bennettasked the Minister of Transport if he will give the estimated capital expenditure on urban road schemes by the Exchequer and local authorities, respectively, for the years 1956–57 to 1969–70, inclusive.

Although many trunk road and motorway schemes help to relieve urban traffic 210W congestion, most of the important urban schemes relate to classified roads. The following table gives the Exchequer contribution and the local authorities' expenditure on classified roads in England and Wales for each of the years 1956–57 to 1962–63 together with estimated figures for 1963–64.
