Mr. Hannanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state for each of the years 1956, 1959, and 1962 174W the number of patients diagnosed as suffering from alcoholism who were admitted to mental hospitals; what percentage such patients comprised of the total admitted to such hospitals; and whether the readmission rate of alcoholic patients is higher than that of all patients.
§ Mr. StodartThe number of patients diagnosed as suffering from alcoholism admitted to mental hospitals in 1956, 1959 and 1962 were 732, 921 and 1,617 or 7.1 per cent., 7.3 per cent. and 11 per cent. of total admissions to such hospitals. In 1962 the re-admission rate for alcoholic patients was 52 per cent. and the general re-admission rate was 47 per cent.
