HC Deb 21 April 1964 vol 693 cc157-8W
49. Mr. Pentland

asked the Minister of Power on what grounds he decided against publishing in Command Paper No. 2335 a more detailed summary of the technical and economic considerations arrived at by the Powell Committee in their Report to the Cabinet on the future of the nuclear power programme.

Mr. Erroll

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister had made clear, details of the work of Cabinet Committees are confidential, but the Government are satisfied that the technical and economic prospects of nuclear power are sufficiently promising to justify a 5,000 MW. programme for planning purposes. There are, however, not yet sufficient firm facts available to determine the precise type or types of reactor to be built or the ultimate scale of the programme.
